This isn't a stat. It's your school.
14% of Alberta students in grades 7–12 are vaping. That's roughly 4 students in every classroom of 30. The companies behind these products designed them to look fun, taste sweet, and keep you coming back. The law that's supposed to protect you was written years ago. It's getting reviewed in 2026. Right now.If students don't speak up, adults will decide for you.

Myth Buster #1
DYK: Vaping and tobacco products are actively marketed towards youth by companies. They are trying to hook you!

Myth Buster #2
Think vaping is safe? Think again! It causes real health damages and addictions that can last forever.
The Window is open. Briefly.
Every five years, the Alberta government reviews the Tobacco, Smoking and Vaping Reduction Act — the law that controls how vapes and tobacco are sold, marketed, and regulated in this province. That review is happening this year.Decisions made this year will shape what's legal, what's restricted, and what's allowed near your school for the next five years. Students under 18 can't vote in elections — but you can vote in this referendum, and your voice will be delivered directly to the people writing the law.

Who Can Vote?
*You're in grades 8–12 (between the ages of 13-18)
*You attend school in Alberta
*You register before May 26That's it. No fees, no party, no political stuff. Just your voice on one question that affects your generation.

Questions? Fair.
Q: Is this an actual government vote?
No — and yes. YOUTHDECIDE2026 is a youth-led referendum, not an official government election. But the results will be delivered directly to the legislative review of Alberta's tobacco and vaping laws. Decision-makers will see exactly how Alberta students voted.Q: Why do I have to register?
So we can verify you're an Alberta student in grades 8–12 (between the ages of 13 and 18), send you your voting link on May 26, and make sure each person votes only once. No registration = no vote.Q: Do I need parental permission?
No. You're voting on something that affects you. That's your right.Q: What are the actual questions we're voting on?
It will focus on protecting Alberta students from commercial tobacco and vaping — written in plain language, with all the context you need to make an informed call.Q: I don't vape or smoke. Why does this matter to me?
Because the people writing the law assume you don't care. When students don't speak up, decisions get made by adults who haven't been in a high school bathroom in 20 years. Your vote shifts that.Q: Can I share this with friends?
Please do. The more students who register, the more weight the results carry.Q: Wait — is the prize real?
Yes. 20 students who register before May 30 will be randomly drawn to win a $50 gift card. The draw happens June 5. If you win, we'll email you. (One catch: Canadian contest law means winners have to answer a math skill-testing question — nothing wild, just basic arithmetic.) Read the full contest rules.
The law gets rewritten next year.
With you, or without you.

Every Alberta student in grades 8–12 who registers is automatically entered to win 1 of 20 $50 gift cards. No extra steps. No purchase needed.
